Columbus City Council representative Evelyn Turner is the focus of the CSU MBA alumni spotlight. Ms. Turner received her associate’s degree in secretarial science from Columbus State University in 1972. It didn’t take her long to realize that being a secretary was not her career choice. She once again enrolled in CSU and in 1977, she graduated with a bachelor of science in business. According to Ms. Turner, “as I became more involved in the business world, I realized that a master’s degree in business administration was my next step.” Again, she returned to CSU. While completing her degree, Ms. Turner learned to not let anything or anyone get in the way of making her dreams come true.

In 1988 she decided to go into politics. In 1990 she was elected to serve on the Columbus City Council. Ms. Turner’s other achievements include being named one of the “Women of Achievement” by the Concharty Council of Girl Scouts.

In 1992 Ms. Turner was re-elected to serve as the representative to council post two. She has served in this capacity for the past seven years. Currently, she is a vice president with Sun Trust Bank in Columbus. “Columbus State played an important role in helping me accomplish my career goals.”

According to Ms. Turner, CSU plays a vital role in the community. Many of the professionals in today’s workforce are educated here at CSU.
