Executive Board 2007 - 2008

President: Joshua Kearney

Joshua Kearney is currently in pursuit of a BM in instrumental music education. As a trombonist in the Wind Ensemble and the CSU Philharmonic he has performed at the GMEA conference and recorded CDs with Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic, and John Bruce Yeh, associate principal clarinetist of the Chicago Symphony. In addition to trombone performance, Josh is also active as an arranger for full trombone ensemble. His most recent contribution to the repertoire includes a transcription of the "Kyrie" from Schubert’s Mass in E-flat and of Charles Ives’ "Variations on America." An aspiring music professional, Josh also studies conducting, pedagogy, and ensemble development privately with members of the Schwob School faculty. Josh has also been recognized as a Tower Scholar by the Columbus State University honors program.

 

Vice President: Renée Perkins

Renée Perkins recently obtained a BM from Columbus State University.  She studied saxophone with Amy Griffiths and served two seasons as the principal saxophonist of the Wind Ensemble and lead alto sax of the jazz band. She also played soprano saxophone in the winning saxophone quartet of the state level MTNA Chamber Music Competition in 2006.  She is currently pursuing her graduate degree in Music Education with an assistantship at CSU--studying conducting with Dr. Robert Rumbelow. She teaches private saxophone lessons, conducting for drum majors, and has taught masterclasses for high school students in the Columbus area and Warner Robins, GA. Renée is a 2007 recipient of the CMENC Scholarship through the Georgia Music Educators Association.

 

Secretary: John Womack

John Womack is currently a sophomore Music Education major at the Schwob School of Music. His principle instrument is saxophone which he has played in several ensembles including the CSU Wind Orchestra and the CSU Saxophone Quartet and Trio. John has been in several leadership positions including Drum Major of the Milton High School Band and Treasurer of the local Tri-M Music honor society. John teaches both marching and concert camps to both middle and high school band programs including Roswell High School, Elkins Pointe Middle School, and Harris County High School. John plans to get his bachelors and his masters and teach Band in the public schools of Georgia.

 

 

Public Relations Chair: Heather Roland

Heather Roland is a junior at the Schwob School of music, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Music Education. 
Heather’s primary instrument is Horn and is a student of Dr. Kristen
S. Hansen.  Heather has participated in various small ensembles, horn choir, and wind orchestra.  Heather is an active member of Sigma Alpha Iota, where she served as VP of Membership for 2006-2007, and is currently serving as VP of Ritual and Treasurer for the 2007-2008 school year. Heather has worked with both high school marching band and concert band horn sections. Through CMENC Heather has attended GMEA and participated in the instrument petting zoo for the past two years.  She is recipient of various private scholarships, Schwob Patrons Scholarship, and Tower Scholarship through the CSU Honors Program. This summer Heather studied in Oxford for three weeks through CSU Study Abroad. 

 

Public Relations Committee:  

Lindsay Chappell

Lindsay has attended Columbus State University since 2006 and is studying music education. She is a junior and her primary instrument is flute. She has attended events such as the Atlanta Flute Convention in 2007 and the GMEA Conference in Savannah, GA. Through CMENC she has participated in events such as the instrument petting zoo and the annual caroling event at the Ralston. She has also volunteered for CSU sponsored GMEA workshops. At Schwob she has also been involved with the CSU Conductor's Workshop and the high school Honor Bands of Georgia. Her scholarships include the HOPE scholarship and the Schwob patron scholarship.

 

Hazel Geissinger

Hazel Geissinger is currently a sophomore at Columbus State University pursuing a degree in music education.  She is studying the trombone and has participated in ensembles including the CSU Wind Orchestra and the CSU Trombone Octet and Trombone Choir.  Through CMENC, Hazel has taken part in the GMEA Convention in Savannah, GA, the instrument petting zoo, and annual caroling at The Ralston.  Outside of the Schwob School of Music, she has worked with both middle and high school marching and concert bands.   Hazel currently receives the Schwob Patron Scholarship and the HOPE Scholarship.

 

 

Emma Scheibe

Emma Scheibe is currently a sophomore at Columbus State University pursuing a degree in music education with emphasis in voice. Emma is a member of the CSU Women's Ensemble, Concert Choir, and Choral Union. Through CMENC Emma has participated in the GMEA convention as a host, she has volunteered with the instrument petting zoo,  and she has participated in the annual CMENC-sponsored "Caroling at The Ralston" event. She has also served as an announcer at the yearly CMENC state conference. Outside of the Schwob School of Music, Emma has worked as a teacher apprentice to the Woodstock Middle School Choral Department. Emma is currently receiving the HOPE Scholarship.

 

Emily Spradley

Emily Spradley is currently a junior at Columbus State University, and
is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. She studies
bassoon with Dr. Ronald Wirt and is a member of the CSU Wind Ensemble, in which she has performed and recorded with guest artists Joseph Alessi and John Bruce Yeh. She has also performed with the CSU Philharmonic Orchestra and in orchestras within the community and surrounding areas, and plays piano in the CSU Jazz Band. Emily is an active member of the CMENC chapter at Columbus State. She has assisted with the CMENC Fall State Conference for the past two years and presided at the 2007 GMEA Conference. This year, she will serve on the state CMENC board as Member-at-Large, and is looking forward to serving the CSU chapter Public Relations Committee. Emily is a recipient of the Martha Turner Scholarship and is a Tower Scholar with the CSU Honors Program.
