The Mission of AAUW

  • To provide equity for women and girls
  • Education and self-development over the life span
  • Positive societal change
  • To achieve legal, social, educational and economic equality for women
  • To move women into policy-making positions in all sectors of society
  • To act on timely issues and concerns identified by its members
  • To support the AAUW Education Foundation and Legal Advocacy Funds

AAUW is composed of two corporations:

  • The AAUW Educational Foundation
The AAUW Educational Foundation is the world's largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women. Each year the Foundation provides about $4 million in fellowships, grants, and awards for outstanding women around the globe and for community action projects. The Foundation also funds pioneering research on women, girls, and education, and international symposia.
    • The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund, a program of the AAUW Educational Foundation, is the nation's largest legal fund focused solely on sex discrimination in higher education. The Legal Advocacy Fund provides funds and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education.
